Texas Governor Greg Abbott has proclaimed October 2024 as “Principals Month” in Texas. In honor of the principals and assistant principal, Spearman ISD recognizes the elementary and secondary administrators.
We have high expectations of our school principals. They are expected to be instructional leaders and set the tone for academic excellence. They are disciplinarians, budget managers, and so much more. They have the job of maintaining and building school morale and keeping up with the changes that occur often. We are thankful for their leadership of nearly 700 students across the district.
Cayla Schroeder is the assistant principal at Gus Birdwell Elementary. This is her second year in the position.
Her mother and husband are two people she looks up to as they have inspired her by overcoming so many challenges in life and have done it with grace. “They both encourage me to keep going no matter what,” stated Schroeder.
Her family all shares a love for golf, and they play together as often as they can. She loves the OU Sooners and watching college football on the weekends.
A challenge she faces as principal is balancing work and life. Decision making can also be a challenge at times. “The long hours and trying to make decisions that sometimes are unpopular but best for kids can be hard at times. I am very thankful to work in a district that is so supportive.”
She continues to be inspired by new teachers that are stepping up and learning everything they can to teach kids. She added, “We have some great new and veteran teachers in our district!”
Congratulations, Mrs. Schroeder!
