The first practice of Fall camp is Monday, July 31st at 7 am!! If you have not checked out equipment, you need to be at the field house no later than 6:30 Monday morning.

Spearman ISD Announces Elementary Principal
Lizet Olmos has been named Gus Birdwell Elementary Principal. Olmos was the Assistant Principal at Gus Birdwell Elementary. Her experience includes classroom teacher and school counselor at Gus Birdwell Elementary.
She was raised in Spearman and attended school on all three campuses. “Aside from seeing my family happy, serving in the same school I grew up in is a proud accomplishment,” said Olmos.
She is motivated by doing her best to be a better version of herself. She shared, “I love working with our littles that I know are our future. Our future doctors, lawyers, teachers, principals are walking our hall, and I am fortunate enough to help them learn and grow.”
She loves kids, helping others and is always willing to learn. “I love the honesty of our elementary students. There is no such thing of a boring day. Our students always make you feel loved. They will let you know when you look great, but they will also tell you if you have a bad hair day!” laughed Olmos
Spearman ISD Superintendent, Dan Gist, added, “Mrs. Olmos is a great leader, organized, and she will be a role model to all students. She has a true love for kids and education.”

Top of Texas Weightlifting Competes at Nationals
On June 24th and 25th, four Spearman ISD students traveled to Colorado Springs to compete in USA Weightlifting's Youth National Championships.
Caitlin Lozano, a GBE incoming 4th grader, competed first in the 33kg weight class. She placed 4th in the 11 and under age division with a 14kg snatch and a 20kg clean and jerk, totaling 34kg.
Cooper Sonnenberg lifted in the 61kg weight class. Successfully lifting a 28kg snatch and 36kg clean and jerk. He totaled 64kg, placing him 14th overall in the 13 and under age group.
Connor Lozano shined in the 13 and under 55kg weight class. Lifting a state record 53kg and securing gold in the snatch, followed by a 64kg clean and jerk. He placed 2nd overall with another state record of 117kg total in a very competitive weight class. One kilogram is all that separated 1st to 3rd place. Lozano tied another lifter at 117kg but, luckily, the tie breaker goes to the athlete who successfully lifted the weight first.
Cooper and Connor will be 7th graders and ready to begin Lynx Athletics.
All athletes lift for Top of Texas Weightlifting Club in Spearman and are coached by Michael Lozano and Shelby Reagan. Top of Texas Weightlifting Club has competed for 10 years and developed multiple national qualifiers, one international qualifier, multiple state medalists, three state record holders, and one national champion. Weightlifting is the only Olympic barbell sport. USA Weightlifting is the sole governing body of all weightlifting clubs in the United States with over 27,000 USA weightlifting members.
There will be a mandatory meeting for all High School Lynxettes enrolled in the athletic period. There will be a meeting immediately following Tuesday’s 8:00 am workout or Tuesday evening at 5:30 pm in the fieldhouse. If you cannot attend either time you will need to notify Coach Klafka (806)724-6616 to remain in the athletic period.
Region 16 hosted a banquet to recognize the elementary and secondary Teachers of the Year nominees. Three nominees were selected as the top 3 finalists and will be recognized at the Region 16 Fall Kickoff. Chelsea Vanderburg was selected as a top 3 for Elementary Teacher of the Year! Congratulations!! Best of luck at the next level!

Spearman’s own Braylen Lusby was an all-star selection for the Texas Girls Coaching Association. She competed last night in Arlington and had the first 10 points for the “Red” Team! Bray had an incredible game!! Congrats young lady. You represented Spearman well!!
Junior High Supply List 2023-2024
Great news for GBE! GBE PTO was able to purchase almost all school supplies needed for our students for the 2023-2024 school year. Attached is the list of items that students are responsible for. **Pre-k Head Start will not need to bring any supplies. We will notify pre-k students of their classes as soon as we have that information **
This week, the 2023-2024 SHS cheerleaders participated in a UCA home cheer camp at Spearman High School. Braylen Lusby, Giselle Flores, and Karleigh Baker earned All-American Cheerleader honors, and Ella Wilkerson was the jump-off champion for the camp. Congratulations Ladies!!
